I have hunted one individual fish for 6 weeks,
repeatedly encountering him at 48m and refused to shoot him because
the deal was that I would take him at 52m, as it turned out that fish
outmaneuvered me to the point that I abandoned one of my basic deep
diving protocols. That day I stopped viewing him as prey and he became
my master. I saw that same fish many more times (even at 52m) and would
never shoot him after that. I used to talk to him down there.
Indeed I have always remembered the fish which
I have not shot with far more pleasure than the ones I landed. They
invariably have taught me more. But hey, I do eat fish and I do like
landing them too!
This is about spearfishing fish beyond 50m, a
personal project that I have dedicated a lot of time to developing.
I have spent most of that time working depth diving skill and bottom
time, not a lot on spearfishing skills, now I have started to focus
more on that aspect.
